Background and objective
The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study is a comprehensive disease assessment, which measures population health around the world annually and its results are available by country. We used the GBD estimates to summarize the population health status in Spain in 2016 and describe trends in morbidity and mortality from 1990 to 2016.
As a conclusion from the study, it became clear that back and neck pains were the most important contributor to disability in Spain in 2016. There was a noticeable increase in population burdens due to Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Tobacco remains the most important health risk to be addressed in Spain.
