The Dutch go mainly with movement complaints to the doctor!
The most reported complaints to general practitioner are related to the musculoskeletal system, especially complaints to knee and lower back, as evidenced by figures from NIVEL Care registrations.
Per 1,000 enrolled patients, there were approximately 700 consultations in 2016 for complaints to the musculoskeletal system. The number of consultations is higher in women than in men and increases greatly with age. For example, women 65 years and older average 1.5 times a year for movement complaints.
Most common complaints are:
- complaints of the knee followed by
- low back pain without radiation and
- low back pain with radiation.
NIVEL (Netherlands Institute for Health Care Research) investigates the effectiveness and quality of healthcare in the Netherlands and the relationships between healthcare providers, health care consumers, health insurers and the government. In addition, the institute carries out international research into healthcare in Europe. NIVEL is an independent research institute.
