How to build SIP national platforms?

Gudula Petersen – SIP Partners, Belgium

About 20 national representatives from Pain Alliance Europe (PAE) came together at the General Assembly in June to discuss and share good practices how to build successful and sustainable SIP national platforms (NP).

Vittoria Carraro from European Pain Federation EFIC and Gudula Petersen from Grünenthal were leading this workshop and explained the strategy and initiatives of the European SIP Platform. The support of countries to set up SIP national platforms is one of the main activities in 2019.  Until now eight SIP national platforms have been established which achieved great attention and Milestones already.

María Soledad García Penalta from the SIP Spain platform shared her experiences with the PAE members how they built a national SIP platform in Spain with support from the Ministry of Health and how they arranged an impressing event in the Spanish parliament in December 2018.

An interactive group exercise has taken place to answer following questions:

  • Who are the core members of your partnership?
  • What are your key focus areas?
  • What are your activities?

Many great ideas were collected by the groups and it came out that each country needs a different approach how to set up a SIP NP in their country. See also the presentation from the workshop attached.

The final key messages at the end of the workshop were:

  1. SIP is a powerful platform – also on national level
  2. Start small and think big!
  3. We (the EU SIP Team) help you to be succesful!
