Pain Alliance Europe is happy to announce the second edition of the Brain, Mind, and Pain Patient-Centred Innovation Grant with the support of Grünenthal and partner organisations. The launch last year was very successful – see report of the award ceremony. Patients, and the people associated with them, will know that there is a need to raise awareness of the social and psychological Impact they will experience regarding the various aspects of living with chronic pain or neurological conditions. This second edition of the Brain, Mind, and Pain Grant will look into ways of reducing the stigma associated with these conditions. The BMP Grant team will be supporting innovative ideas designing new Solutions to meet the need for a more understanding society. They expect the grant submission to be based on knowledge, tolerance and empathy towards brain, mind and pain patients at all possible levels of interaction. The 2019-2020 Call for Proposals will be available online for a period for 6 months starting 1st July 2019. The SIP Thematic Network provided a unique opportunity to create new synergies and break silos. SIP is now collaboration with the Joint Action of the European Commission CHRODIS Plus that aims at implementing pilot projects and generate practical lessons in the field of chronic diseases. SIP will be represented by our partners Pain Alliance Europe (PAE) and particularly involved in the Work Package (WP) 8 on Employment and Chronic Conditions. Joop van Griensven, President of PAE, represents SIP at the CHRODIS+ meeting with the WP8 on “Employment in the Multi-morbidity Chronic Care Model” that takes place on 28th February at the Policlinico Gemelli in Rome. In CHRODIS PLUS 42 partners, representing 21 European countries, collaborate to implement pilot projects and generate practical lessons in the field of chronic diseases. Stay tuned, more to come!

Under the scientific responsibility of the French medical pain society (SFETD), "Societal Impact of Pain in France" organized a lunch-debate on the course of care of the painful patient in the Auvergne Rhone Alpes district on February 15, 2019, with the support of Lyon Hospital, host of the Event. It aims to spread at territorial level the national debate initiated last October at the 1st National Forum against Pain, held under the patronage of Agnès Buzyn, at the Ministry of Solidarity and Health.

Launched at the end of 2018, the third edition of PAE Surveys on Chronic Pain deals with the different facets of stigma that affect the pain patients – at the healthcare provider, at work, in everyday life and at all social levels. Besides the harmful effects on the patients themselves, the stigma related to pain manifestations and impact and the invisible nature of the disease constitute a real barrier to a significant and efficient treatment of chronic pain. Translated in 16 languages, the survey intends to produce patient-related data to illustrate the invisible difficulties that pain patients meet and to raise awareness of the effects the entire society’s attitudes at different levels of interaction generate on pain patients. PAE’s team and volunteers are continuously working on extending the outreach of this project to increase participation for a better relevance of data.  We hereby invite all patient organisations, healthcare professionals and other SIP stakeholders to contribute by sharing the links to the survey with their respective members and contacts concerned with pain.
