SIP France continues to raise awareness on chronic pain. After a first round of national mobilization with the Ministry of Health in 2018, SIP France is continuing the debate at regional level. On February 15, 2019, SIP France organised a lunch-debate on the course of care of the pain patients in the Auvergne Rhone Alpes (AURA) with the support of Lyon Hospital, host of the event.

On the 25th of June 2019 the Chronic Pain Policy Coalition (CPPC) hosted a patient centric Pain Platform meeting at the House of Lords, to explore the burden of chronic pain in England, and how policy can be improved to support patient outcomes. The meeting was sponsored by The Rt Hon. the Lord Luce and hosted by the CPPC and financially supported by a grant from Grünenthal Ltd. Attending the event were over 50 individuals from across the chronic pain policy landscape, including representatives from patient organisations, NHS England, clinicians, parliamentarians, government officials and industry. The CPPC will be writing up a full report of the event, which will carry forward the key themes and recommendations made by the Pain Platform’s speakers and attendees. The report will be shared with the events’ attendees and CPPC affiliates. It will also be shared on the CPPC website. The joint statement has been prepared by the SIP Portugal platform in March 2019 and presents the common position of all those involved and proposes actions to be taken, relevant to pain, in two categories: employment and education. There is a need to develop policies and design action strategies so that many of the key problems identified are reduced. This is only possible if there is an effective and preventive intervention of public policies in health. The document is a great example how a national SIP platform should address societal impact of pain topics to policy makers and is a helpful tool for other SIP national platforms to prepare similar documents for national use

The Pontifical Academy for Life presented on Ascension day, Thursday 30 Mai in Berlin the "PAL-LIFE - White Book for the worldwide promotion of palliative care". The Vatican provides important recommendations in the book on how each social group can contribute to palliative care.  PAL-LIFE has been developed by international palliative care experts. Among the experts: Thomas Sitte, CEO of the German Palliative Foundation whom you might recognise as speaker at several SIP meetings.  During a press conference in the Apostolic Nunciature in Berlin, Sitte referred to the great value of the White Paper: "It should and can form a practical basis for all institutions that are involved in health care in some form." The White Paper offers assistance to draw up much-needed recommendations. Governments and health care providers could use PAL-LIFE as a basic strategies checklist to reduce concerns for suffering patients and their loved ones. Sitte: "PAL-LIFE is a building block for disseminating necessary and well-founded knowledge. So we can calmly and factually explain that we do not need businesslike aid for suicide in Germany in order to alleviate suffering." Please read the full article in German.
