Celebration of Red Balloon Campaign

The Red Balloon Campaign celebrated its closing ceremony during the pre-symposium of SIP 2017. The campaign was initiated in May 2016 to raise global awareness on chronic pain posing not only a heavy burden on those suffering but also on their families and general society.

During SIP 2016 in Brussels, Pain Alliance Europe (PAE) in partnership with Boston Scientific launched the campaign to make the issue of chronic pain more visible. At SIP 2016, attendees could have their picture taken in a photo booth while bursting a red balloon. The main objective of the campaign is to address politicians, policy makers and healthcare providers to foster overall improvement of pain management for patients across Europe. This was followed by multiple other activities across Europe. More than 2,300 people across the world supported the campaign via Facebook, Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #releasethepain.
