SIP 2017 Steering Committee Meeting
The SIP Steering Committee meeting on October 4th in Brussels was attended by around 50 key stakeholders involved in the pain policy agenda in Europe. Following topics have been discussed:
- Review of SIP in 2017 and SIP 2017 recommendations
- Expert Group on Social Impact of Pain (presented by Jürgen Scheftleins and Abigail Moreno Ginés from DG SANTE, European Commission)
- What’s happening in Brussels in 2018? EU Health Policy
- Discussion of SIP 2018 strategy options
The SIP initiative has had great success over the last year in getting chronic pain embedded in the EU policy agenda. The main achievement of this year’s SIP activities has been the establishment of an Expert Working Group on the Social Impact of Pain by the European Commission. The aim is to identify, share and encourage replication of good health policy practices. More information can be found here.
There was a general consensus to build on and learn from the successes in Europe by establishing activities at a national level; going into member states to initiate or build on existing platforms and collaborations.
A more detailed report will be published soon.
