The Netherlands launches a health deal on chronic pain care

On 29 September 2016, the Dutch Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport and the Minister of Economic Affairs signed a “Health Deal on Chronic Pain”  together with pain- and  revalidation centres and the pain patient association.

The Deal’s objective is to prompt a change in the way pain patients are treated in the country by implementing improved standards of chronic pain care, especially in terms of quality and efficiency of the treatment. It also aims at making health care data accessible for scientific analysis, promoting e-health and e-learning solutions, and increasing accessibility to care innovations.

In the Netherlands, more than 2.2 million people suffer of chronic pain, which often leads to absenteeism and even disability. This condition has a significant impact on patients’ families too.

The Health Deal is signed by: Samenwerkingsverband Pijnpatiënten naar één stem, CIR, de Vogellanden, Realhealth, Sint Maartenskliniek, Radboudumc, Pijncentrum UMCG, Aratame Health, Diakonessenhuis, Landelijk Netwerk Oefentherapeuten Chronische Pijn, VUmc, Zilveren Kruis, HINQ, Happy Motion, the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport and the Minister of Economic Affairs. The Health Deal is also open to other interested parties.
