The Croatian Pain Society currently promotes a multidisciplinary pain management program (PMP) as the standard of care for patients with chronic pain. The program is based on cognitive behavioural principles and promises to improve physical, psychological and social functions. A first program of this kind had been established in the University Hospital Osijek under the sponsorship of the Croatian Pain Society. Patients showed a stronger participation in daily activities and the quality of life seem to have improved for people suffering from persistent pain and physical disability.
